There are a number of qualities that you will need to be aware of and develop in order to become a competent Course Tutor:

- Be Motivational
- Have a Positive attitude
- Be Organised
- Be Punctual
- Take pride in your appearance; always look smart and well groomed
- Have Positive Non verbal communication
- Be Readily available to answer questions
- Not patronising
- Be Approachable
- Be Open to constructive criticism and feedback
- Be Adaptable – you may need to act quickly and effectively if an incident occurs that disrupts the running of the course
- Cater for all styles of learning needs
- Be neutral
- Avoid naming your own squad, or discussing other squads
- Build rapport, and relationships with participants
- Strike up and engage in conversation with people
- Actively listen to participants
- Praise and encourage
- Build confidence
- Care about your sport
- Include humour in your delivery
- Create a relaxed learning environment
- OBSERVE, OBSERVE, OBSERVE – ensure you are constantly checking the well being of your candidates.
